Anne Beaulieu works at the Groningen Energy and Sustainability Programme of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Before that, she was Senior Research Fellow at the Virtual Knowledge Studio for the Humanities and Social Sciences (VKS) of the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences in Amsterdam. She has studied the development and consequences of imaging and databasing technologies for biomedical knowledge, including an ethnographic study of brain imaging in neuroscience in the course of her PhD, entitled ‘The Space inside the Skull: Digital Representations, Brain Mapping and Cognitive Neuroscience in the Decade of the Brain‘. Her research follows two main lines: the study of the use of databases and networks in knowledge creation, and the development of new ethnographic approaches to cultural and social phenomena in mediated settings. Together with Sarah de Rijcke (Leiden University), she recently pursued an ethnographic study of knowledge production around databases of images on the web entitled Network Realism.
